In 2023, the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships will be held in Antwerp, Belgium, the birthplace of Simone Biles’ seven Olympic gymnastics medals.
The 25-time World medalist made her debut in the competition in Antwerp ten years ago and took home four medals: gold in the all-around and floor exercise, silver in the vault, and bronze on the balance beam.
In her most recent Worlds competition, in 2019, Biles won five gold medals (team, all-around, vault, balancing beam, and floor exercise), an accomplishment she might repeat in Belgium.
Given that they have won the last six world team championships, the Olympic gold in 2012 and 2016, and the silver medal in Tokyo 2020, Team USA will enter the competition as the overwhelming favourites to win the team gold.
The team already has the most straight wins, but Biles would finish fifth in the event. She is presently tied for first place as the only gymnast to win four World team titles with Simona Amanar of Romania, Huang Xu, Yang Wei, and Chen Yibing of China.
In the individual all-around, vault, balancing beam, and floor exercise finals, the 26-year-old will also be the frontrunner.
During the second of 10 women’s qualifying sessions on Sunday, October 1, Biles and the American women begin their competition.
