You can drive a sports car in the snow, did you know that? It is feasible, especially if the car has an all-wheel drivetrain and reliable winter tyres. That isn’t always essential, though. Check out these seven sports cars, which perform equally well on dry pavement and in the snow. Well, mostly speaking.
1. 2023 Volkswagen Golf R
You always prefer the Volkswagen Golf R for winter driving, not just because of its all-wheel drive system but also because of its turbocharged 2.0 litre engine that produces more power than it should. For 2023, the Golf R’s six-speed manual or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmissions deliver 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque to all four of its wheels.
In addition to its powerful engines, the Golf R boasts four doors and five seats, making it as practical as it is stylish.
2. Honda Civic Si from 2023
As we previously stated, an all-wheel drivetrain is not actually necessary to move a car down a snowy road. In 2022, we put the Honda Civic Si through its paces and showed that it could navigate the snow reasonably well. For that, we are grateful for the car’s limited-slip differential and front-drive layout, which helped put the 200 hp of the turbocharged engine to use.
3. Dodge Challenger AWD 2023
Given that an all-wheel drivetrain is an option on the 2023 Dodge Challenger, it would be difficult to omit it from this list. Unfortunately, you’ll have to choose the V6 model to obtain it, but you don’t want too much power when driving in the snow anyhow. Still advise looking at the V8 versions or the Hellcat variant if you want additional power. However, don’t hold it against us if it starts spinning its tyres and struggles to move forward in the snow.
4. Acura Integra Type S 2024
The 2024 Acura Integra Type S includes front-wheel drive and a limited-slip differential to help with winter driving, similar to the Honda Civic Si. However, because to its turbocharged engine’s 320 horsepower, you would be better off purchasing winter tyres for this car. Although the six-speed manual transmission will make it a lot of fun, so much power is a lot for winter driving. Best of all, the Integra Type S comes with heated seats to keep your buns warm this winter, unlike its Honda Civic Type R (and Si) cousin.
5. Nissan GT-R in 2023
Although the Nissan GT-R is overkill for driving in the winter, it’s still hard to suggest. Who wouldn’t want to drive a vehicle with an all-wheel drivetrain and 565 horsepower? Both on dry land and probably in the snow, it’s enjoyable. Oh, and the GT-R boasts heated seats and a dual-zone climate control system for the comfort of its occupants as they tear over the icy winter roads.
6. Audi TT 2023
They suggest looking at the 2023 Audi TT if you’d want a German sports vehicle that is a touch more upscale than the Golf R but has a similar powertrain. A 2.0-liter, four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 228 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque powers the TT. Okay, so it costs less than the Golf R, but since it has an all-wheel powertrain, it ought to perform equally well in the snow.
7. Mazda MX-5 Miata from 2023
They’ll be the first to admit that adding the 2023 Mazda MX-5 Miata to a list with so many AWD cars is an uncommon choice. However, it’s difficult to advise against it given that a good set of winter tyres might make the little rear-drive roadster more adept at navigating the snow. Furthermore, it is quick because to its six-speed manual transmission and 181 hp engine’s eager to rev nature.
Can sports cars travel on snowy roads?
Despite the fact that the majority of these cars have all-wheel drive, it is not absolutely necessary. Of course, driving a sports car in the snow would be lot more pleasurable, but as previously mentioned, a good set of winter tyres may work just well. Whichever vehicle you choose from this list, rest assured that you will enjoy many enjoyable winter driving experiences.
