The new spy thriller series “Butterfly,” starring Daniel Dae Kim on Amazon Prime Video, has cast Reina Hardesty.
She is set to play Rebecca, a lethal and sociopathic young agent tasked with killing David Jung (Kim), a mysterious and extremely capricious former U.S. intelligence agent residing in South Korea, whose life is shattered when the consequences of an unfeasible choice from his past return to haunt him.
Rebecca is described as a “charismatic, unpredictable assassin. Orphaned (or so she thought) at the age of 13, she learned to cope with her pain and loneliness by distancing herself from difficult emotions, applying a mental tourniquet to the part of her that held love and empathy. Over time, she’s developed a hard shell, which is useful in her line of work. But Rebecca isn’t a grizzled, stoic hitman. She’s shiny and charming and fun to watch, leaping to life with every hit of adrenaline.”
Hardesty, whose prior credits include the movies “The Secret Art of Human Flight,” “Brockmire,” “The CW’s The Flash,” “Legends of Tomorrow” on DC, and “Startup” on Crackle, will soon be seen in the movie “It’s What’s Inside.”
Gersh, Authentic, Goodman Genow Schenkman, and Smelkinson & Christopher, LLP are her agents.
The Boom! Studios graphic novel series authored by Arash Amel served as the inspiration for “Butterfly.” The novels were co-written by Amel and Marguerite Bennett, with pictures by Stefano Simeone and Antonio Fuso.
“Butterfly” was developed by Kim’s business 3AD through a first look set with Amazon MGM Studios. Steph Cha and Ken Woodruff are the showrunners and co-creators. Woodruff, Cha, and Kim are executive producers, together with John Cheng of 3AD, Amel on behalf of the Amel Company, and Stephen Christy and Ross Richie of Boom! Studios. Boom! Studios co-executive producer Adam Yoelin.
