Angel Reese set a new WNBA record as the first rookie to record seven consecutive double-doubles.
The former LSU standout scored 16 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds to help the Chicago Sky defeat the Dallas Wings 83-72, snapping a four-game losing run.
“It’s super exciting for myself,” Reese told ESPN. “I try to give myself some grace and tell myself I’m doing a good job, but I have so much more to grow, and I’m just excited to be in this league.”
Candace Parker holds the WNBA record for 12 consecutive double-doubles, which Reese can aspire for considering her averages of 12.4 points and 10.8 rebounds per game. Only two-time MVP A’ja Wilson averages more rebounds per game than Reese.
The Sky cruised to an easy win, leading by as many as 22 points in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Wings made a run to cut the deficit to nine points, but they never seemed like they’d be able to catch up.
Marina Mabrey and Chennedy Carter led the Sky with 19 points each, while rookie Kamilla Cardoso finished with nine points and 11 rebounds, falling one point short of a double-double.
Arike Ogunbowale led the Wings’ scoring with 31 points.
The Sky improve to 5-9 on the season and will next face Caitlin Clark’s Indiana Fever on Sunday, while the Wings fall to 3-11, the league’s second-worst record, ahead of a trip to the Washington Mystics on Saturday.
