Nosferatu, a remake of Robert Egger’s vampire classic starring Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult and Lily-Rose Depp, is new to theaters. When can I watch the movie at home via streaming?
On Christmas Day, Nosferatu opens in theaters around the country. “Nosferatu is a gothic tale of obsession between a haunted young woman and the terrifying vampire infatuated with her, causing untold horror in its wake,” is the official logline for the movie.
Nosferatu is set in the 1800s and stars Skarsgård as vampire Count Orlok. Hoult plays Thomas Hutter, a real estate salesman who is told to find Orlok a new house by his boss, Herr Knock (Simon McBurney). Orlok is obsessed with Ellen Hutter, played by Lily-Rose Depp, who is Thomas’ wife.
Nosferatu, which was written and directed by Eggers, also features Willem Dafoe, Ralph Ineson, Emma Corrin, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.
Nosferatu is currently only available in cinemas, so check your local listings for showtimes.
Digital streaming through premium video on demand will be Nosferatu’s first foray into the home entertainment sector. While some studios base their digital streaming release dates on the box office performance of their films, others have a more predetermined schedule.
Nosferatus Studio Focus features typically follow a set release pattern for their PVOD releases, which usually occur three weeks to a month after each film’s theatrical release.
For example, Focus Features’ summer film Bikeriders, which was released in theaters on June 21st, was released on PVOD 18 days later on July 9th. Conclave, another well-received Focus features release, was released in theaters on October 25th and on PVOD a little over a month later on November 26th.
Most likely, “Nosferatu” will follow the same release pattern as “Conclave,” with a new digital streaming title, meaning viewers could see it debut on PVOD on either Friday, January 24, 2025, or Tuesday, January 28, 2025, which usually launches on a Tuesday or Friday.
Which streaming services will get Nosferatu first?
Focus Features is a subsidiary of NBCUniversal, so Nosferatu will make its streaming video-on-demand debut on the company’s streaming platform, Peacock.
Like Focus features’ PVOD releases, the studio’s SVOD releases tend to follow a set release pattern. For example,
The Bikeriders, which was released in theaters on June 21, made its SVOD debut on Peacock just seven weeks later on August 9.
