The latest installment of the 'Mad Max' series will soon be available to watch at home. 'Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga' will be released in theaters on August 16th. 'Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga' premiered at the 77th Cannes Film Festival in May and received a seven-minute standing ovation. After its theatrical release, the film reached 90% on Rotten Tomatoes. However, it was not as successful at the box office worldwide, grossing $172.8 million against a budget of $168 million. The film stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth as Furiosa, a role that was originally played by Charlize Theron in 'Mad Max: Fury Road'. The plot synopsis for the film goes like this: "Snatched from the Green Place of Many Mothers, young Furiosa falls into the hands of a great biker horde led by the warlord Dementus. Sweeping through the Wasteland, they come across the Citadel, presided over by the Immortan Joe. As the two tyrants fight for dominance, Furiosa soon finds herself in a nonstop battle to make her way home." The rest of the cast includes Lachy Hulme, John Howard, Angus Sampson, Tom Burke, Alyla Browne, George Shevtsov, Charlie Fraser, Elsa Pataky, Josh Helman, and Nathan Jones. Variety's chief film critic Owen Gleiberman called the film "a picaresque with a stop-and-go rhythm." He continued, "What it all adds up to is a movie that can be darkly bedazzling, and that will be embraced and defended in a dozen passionate ways — but it’s one that, to me, falls very short of being a ‘Mad Max’ home run." All four films in the series, including 'Mad Max,' “Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior,' 'Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome,' and 'Mad Max: Fury Road,' are also available to stream on Max.
