‘Arcane’ animated series is coming back for a season 2 on Netflix

Arcane, the League of Legends animated series, has been renewed for a second season on Netflix. The statement came after the first season finale of the show aired on Saturday, and it offered a teaser for the second season’s storey.

In a statement, series co-creators Christian Linke and Alex Yee said, “We’re beyond happy about the positive response to ‘Arcane’s’ first season and are working hard with the creative wizards at Riot and [French animation studio] Fortiche to deliver our second installment.”

During the two-day Undercity Nights events on Saturday, Riot Games and Netflix announced the renewal. In the sophomore season, Hailee Steinfeld, Ella Purnell, and Katie Leung will reprise their roles as Vi, Jinx, and Caitlyn Kiramman, respectively. Season 2 is currently in the works.

While there’s no official confirmation yet, it appears that other members of the main cast, such as Jayce, Viktor, Heimerdinger, and Mel, will also return. The conclusion of the first season also offers up a lot of possibilities for how the show could explore the larger world of Runeterra in the future, including a few indications that Noxus — or at least more of its impact — might be seen next season.

On November 6, the first season of “Arcane” premiered on Netflix. The series was split into three parts, each with three episodes. Riot Games has not announced any other projects, but the animated series, which combines hand-drawn and computer-generated graphic techniques, is the company’s first foray into cinema and television production.

“Arcane” is set in the universe of “League of Legends,” and serves as a precursor to the massively popular huge online combat arena game first released by Riot Games in 2009. “League” has become one of the most popular esports titles. Beck and Merrill launched Riot Games, which is now run by CEO Nicolo Laurent. The company employs around 2,500 people around the worldwide.

Marc Merrill, Brandon Beck, Jane Chung, and Thomas Vu serve as executive producers alongside Linke and Yee.

Riot Games’ first foray into television with Arcane is a first for the studio. Riot Games and Fortiche Productions collaborated on the series’ development and production. Arcane debuted on Tencent Video in China thanks to a partnership between Riot Games and Tencent.
