Archery World Cup 2025: Dhiraj Bommadevara Stars as India Wins Four Medals

India won four medals at the Archery World Cup 2025 Stage 1 in Auburndale, USA, including a bronze from Dhiraj Bommadevara in the men’s individual recurve on Sunday and a silver in the men’s recurve team.

India placed fourth on the Archery World Cup 2025 Auburndale medal table with one gold, one silver, and two bronze. With six (three gold, two silver, and one bronze), Mexico was in first place.

In the final, the Indian men’s recurve team, which included Olympians Dhiraj Bommadevara, Tarundeep Rai, and Atanu Das, lost 5-1 against Wang Yan, Li Zhongyuan, and Kao Wenchao of the People’s Republic of China.

In the men’s team recurve archery competition, Chinese Taipei defeated Spain 5-1 to win the bronze.

India defeated Brazil 6-2 in the opening round, defeated Spain 6-2 in the semi-finals, and overcame fourth-seeded Indonesia 6-2 in the quarter-finals.

Later in the day, Dhiraj Bommadevara, who advanced to the bronze medal match with Ankita Bhakat in the Paris 2024 Olympics’ recurve mixed team event, defeated Andres Temino of Spain 6-4 to take home the bronze medal in incredible style. After falling behind 4-2, Dhiraj overcame the Spaniard in the last two sets.

After losing 7-1 to Florian Unruh of Germany, the silver medallist for the mixed team in Paris 2024, Dhiraj advanced to the bronze medal match.

Dhiraj overcame Atanu Das 7-3 in the quarterfinals before defeating Thomas Chirault, the silver medallist for the Paris 2024 men’s team, 6-4.

Compound archery was the subject of India’s other two medals in the USA. In the LA 2028-bound mixed team event, Rishabh Yadav and Jyothi Surekha Vennam won India’s lone gold of the competition, and in the men’s compound team event, Rishabh, Abhishek Verma, and Ojas Deotale earned a bronze.

Four-time Olympian Deepika Kumari, meanwhile, missed to finish on the podium in both the individual and team competitions. In the women’s individual recurve, she advanced to the quarterfinals but was defeated 6-2 by American Casey Kaufhold, the bronze medallist for the Paris 2024 mixed team.

In the quarterfinals, the Indian women’s recurve team, which included Ankita Bhakat, Anshika Kumari, and Deepika Kumari, lost 6-2 to the USA.

The four phases of the Archery World Cup are hosted in various nations. The Archery World Cup Final is where the top eight individual archers in each category from these stages compete for the overall championship. The second phase will take place from May 6–11 in Shanghai, China.
