“Barbie” Sets New Record With 18 Nominations for Critics’ Choice 2024

The world is a “Barbie” awards show.

With a stunning 18 nominations, the highest number of any film in the organization’s 29-year history, Greta Gerwig’s billion-dollar hit is leading the Critics Choice Awards for film. This surpasses the 14 nominations for “Everything Everywhere All at Once” and “The Shape of Water” in their respective years. The best picture, director, actress (Margot Robbie), supporting actor (Ryan Gosling), supporting actress (America Ferrera), and three original songs (Dance the Night, “I’m Just Ken,” and “What Was I Made For?”) were among the mentions.

“Oppenheimer” directed by Christopher Nolan and “Poor Things” directed by Yorgos Lanthimos each received 13 nominations, including best picture, which tied for second place among films. Cord Jefferson’s “American Fiction,” Blitz Bazawule’s “The Colour Purple,” Alexander Payne’s “The Holdovers,” Bradley Cooper’s “Maestro,” Celine Song’s “Past Lives,” and a surprise nomination for Emerald Fennell’s “Saltburn” complete the field of best picture candidates.

On Sunday, January 14, The CW will livestream the winners, with Chelsea Handler returning as presenter.
