They’ve come a long way since they first performed “Carousel” in a San Diego garage.
Blink-182, a renowned pop punk band, has officially announced a 30-city North American tour in support of their most recent album, “One More Time,” with a stop at Chase Centre in San Francisco set for July 9, 2024.
Mark Hoppus on bass and vocals, Tom DeLonge on guitar and vocals, and Travis Barker on drums haven’t worked in the studio together in ten years, despite having produced some of the most well-known dudes rock recordings of the 1990s and early 2000s: “Enema of the State,” released in 1999, had an important effect on the genre with songs like “What’s My Age Again?” and “All the Small Things,” while “Take Off Your Pants and Jacket,” released in 2001, gave rise to upbeat, pick-it-up tunes like “First Date” and “The Rock Show.”
The band built themselves as a mainstay of Warped Tour and MTV, and two of its albums achieved multiplatinum status before slowing down and taking an indefinite break in 2005. The band didn’t come back together until 2009. In 2015, DeLonge quit the group a second time. Matt Skiba of Alkaline Trio filled in for DeLonge for a short while. The bandmates, however, have recently found themselves on radically divergent paths: DeLonge discovered a new life devoted to UFO research, Hoppus overcame an aggressive form of cancer, and Barker created his own cannabis company and wed Kourtney Kardashian.
According to a release from Live Nation, “With Delonge back after nearly a decade fans can expect that electric on stage magic that the trio has delivered over the years.” The band “blink-182” is excited to be facing their future together with the release of their next album in 2023.
The band’s most recent Bay Area performance was at San Jose’s SAP Centre in June; it also made an unexpected cameo at Coachella in April.
The band teased “One More Time…” and “Edging” before releasing them on Oct. 20.
Beginning Friday, Oct. 27, at 10 a.m., tickets for all performances are expected to be made available for purchase on Ticketmaster. Pierce the Veil, a post-hardcore band, is slated to perform as the opening act.
