One is always touring, while the other is never-ending. However, it appears that Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan’s days of playing concerts may be coming to an end, which is why it is even more significant that they will be performing together in September at Somerset Amphitheater.
Dylan, 82, joins Nelson, 90, for another event in the country music icon’s traveling Outlaw Music Festival, held outdoors near the Twin Cities in Somerset, Wisconsin, on September 6th. do. They will also be joined on the show by another Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee, John Mellencamp.
Tickets for the Americana Music Trifecta Song Fest go on sale this Friday at 10 a.m. via outlawmusicfestival.com, with pre-sales beginning Tuesday. Pricing has not yet been announced.
Nelson brought Outlaw Music Fest to Somerset Amphitheater last year with a lineup that included Robert Plant, Alison Krauss and Trample by Turtles. The caravan-like tour is a precursor to the Farm Aid fundraising festival that he and co-founder Mellencamp host at various locations each year in late September.
The Somerset show will be the Texas music hero’s second show in the Twin Cities area in 2024. They will also perform at Bayfront Festival Park in Dylan’s hometown of Duluth on May 23rd. Tickets are currently only available for resale.
Meanwhile, Dylan has not been seen playing in or near his home state since the COVID-19 pandemic. His last appearance in Minnesota was at the Mankato Civic Center in October 2019. In 2021, he returned to touring with a mostly new band to largely positive reviews. The set list mainly included songs from their previous album, 2020’s Rough and Rowdy Ways.
Friends for many years—Bob started the Farm Aid tradition in 1985 by sowing the idea in Willie’s mind—Dylan and Nelson have shared the stage numerous times in Minnesota, including mid-2000s tours of minor-league ballparks that included stops at Rochester’s Mayo Field and St. Paul’s Midway Stadium. Dylan recently showed his admiration for his longtime friend by performing suddenly at Farm Aid last year, backed by Tom Petty’s Heartbreakers.
