Last week, Broadway returned to some post-Thanksgiving normalcy, falling roughly 9% to $42,021,721 from the prior week’s holiday peak. Attendance was robust at 309,802 for the week ending December 8.
Wicked was once again the biggest earner on the roster, collecting $2,782,795, surpassing both The Lion King ($2,489,493) and Hamilton ($2,030,772).
In its last week, Tammy Faye was up more than $111,000 to $371,511, despite the fact that less than half of the Palace seats were full. Water For Elephants also finished its run, making $957,672 with a 66% capacity at the Imperial.
- Cult of Love at the Hayes, generating $299,320 with a 90% attendance rate; opening December 12
- Eureka Day at the Friedman grossed $227,533 for 7 previews with 73% capacity; opening December 16;
- Gypsy grossed $1,602,650 for seven previews, with 95% of seats at the Majestic full; it opens December 19.
Other $1 million-grossing films included & Juliet, Aladdin, Back to the Future, Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club, Death Becomes Her (which earned $1,366,007), Elf, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Hell’s Kitchen, MJ, Oh, Mary!, Suffs, Sunset Blvd., The Book of Mormon, The Great Gatsby, and The Outsiders. Oh, Mary!, The Outsiders, and Wicked were this week’s sell-outs.
Broadway has grossed $948,462,012 in the 29th week of the 2024-25 season, up nearly 14% from this time last year, with total attendance of 7,656,693.
