This October, movie theatres are looking to pop stars to save the box office.
The Britney Spears-starring 2002 coming-of-age film “Crossroads” will be released again in theatres a few weeks after Taylor Swift’s “Eras Tour” concert movie premiered. It will only be on stage on October 23 and 25, as part of a fan event supported by Trafalgar Releasing, Sony Music Entertainment, and RCA Records. The theatrical re-release is connected to Spears’ upcoming memoir, “The Woman in Me,” which is released on October 24.
The movie “Crossroads” will be shown in 875 theatres in 24 countries and have a bonus sing-along featuring two Spears songs that were in the movie but were never shown on a large screen. The “Crossroads” goods line will also debut along with the re-release, and it will include reproductions of the cast’s wardrobe items as well as tops, sweatshirts and jackets that are inspired by the movie.
According to Marc Allenby, CEO of Trafalgar Releasing, “We are excited to […] create an opportunity for fans to enjoy this highly sought after film in cinemas, and to rally in support of Britney telling her story in her upcoming memoir release,”
In addition to creating “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” Shonda Rhimes also written “Crossroads,” which Tamra Davis directed. The plot is on three childhood friends, Lucy (Spears), Kit (Saldana), and Mimi (Manning), who reunite on a cross-country trip eight years after parting ways. Despite receiving negative reviews, “Crossroads” had its initial release in 2002 and amassed a global revenue of $61 million.
