Next week, Pixar’s animated adventure “Elemental” will be available for Disney+ subscribers to view.
On September 13, “Elemental” will launch on Disney+ globally, 89 days after the film’s theatrical debut. Disney+ will release “Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental,” a documentary on the production of “Elemental,” together with the Pixar Animation Studios short “Carl’s Date,” which stars the beloved talking dog Dug from 2009’s “Up.” on the same day that “Elemental” makes its streaming debut.
“Elemental” had Pixar’s worst opening weekend ever at the box office, but it recovered throughout the course of its subsequent stay in theatres. According to Box Office Mojo, the movie made $153.6 million domestically and $480 million internationally in just 11 weeks.
“Elemental” is set in Element City, a community where residents of Fire, Water, Earth, and Air coexist. The main character of the movie is Ember (voiced by Leah Lewis), whose friendship with Wade (Mamoudou Athie), a silly and sentimental person, challenges her perceptions of the reality in which they reside. With a scenario by Peter Sohn, John Hoberg & Kat Likkel, and Brenda Hsueh and a screenplay by Hoberg & Likkel and Hsueh, “Elemental” is directed by Peter Sohn, produced by Denise Ream, and with executive producing from Pete Docter.
The director Sohn covers his parents’ voyage from Korea to New York in “Good Chemistry: The Story of Elemental,” the history of his father’s previous grocery store in the middle of the Bronx, and his decision to pursue an animation career rather than joining the family business.
In “Carl’s Date,” the older “Up” protagonist Carl Fredricksen reluctantly agrees to go on a date with a lady friend, despite the fact that he has no understanding how dating works in modern society. Carl’s ever-supportive dog companion Dug intervenes to allay his pre-date anxiety and offer some tried-and-true advice for making friends—if you’re a dog, that is. Bob Peterson wrote, produced, and directed the new short film, which premiered in theatres before “Elemental.”
A short-term promotion for the ad-supported version of Disney+’s streaming service is now available in the United States for just $2 per month for three months.
