President Donald Trump has announced that Dan Bongino will take on the role of Deputy Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), marking a significant shift in the bureau’s leadership.
In a post on Truth Social Sunday night, Donald Trump praised Bongino as a “man of incredible love and passion for our country” and emphasized his deep-rooted experience in law enforcement and national security.
“Great news for Law Enforcement and American Justice!” Trump wrote. “Dan Bongino, a man of incredible love and passion for our Country, has just been named the next DEPUTY DIRECTOR OF THE FBI, by the man who will be the best ever Director, Kash Patel.”
Bongino’s Background in Law Enforcement & Media
Bongino’s career spans multiple sectors, making him a well-known figure in conservative media and law enforcement. He holds a Master’s Degree in Psychology from the City University of New York and an MBA from Penn State.
His background includes serving as a New York City police officer and later as a Special Agent with the U.S. Secret Service. Bongino also gained national recognition as a former Fox News host and a top-ranking political podcaster.
Trump highlighted Bongino’s willingness to leave his successful media career behind to serve in a critical leadership role at the FBI. “He is now one of the most successful podcasters in the country, something he is willing and prepared to give up in order to serve,” Trump stated.
A New Era Under Kash Patel
Bongino will serve under newly confirmed FBI Director Kash Patel, who was sworn in last Friday following a close 51-49 Senate vote. Patel has been a longtime Trump ally, known for his role in countering investigations into the former president.
During his confirmation hearings, Patel pledged to maintain fairness and impartiality at the FBI despite past criticisms of the agency. His appointment, along with Bongino’s, signals a major transformation in how the FBI will operate under a potential second Trump administration.
Shortly after the announcement, Bongino expressed his gratitude on X (formerly Twitter), saying, “Thank you, Mr. President, Attorney General Bondi, and Director Patel.”
With Bongino’s law enforcement background and Patel’s national security experience, their leadership is expected to bring major changes to the FBI, especially amid ongoing concerns about political bias within the agency.
