Lenny, a guest artist, created today’s Doodle to honor Prof. Dr. Julie Sulianti Saroso, one of Indonesia’s first female doctors. Prof. Dr. Saroso devoted her life to facilitating access to high-quality healthcare for underprivileged communities.
Sulianti Saroso was brought into the world on this day in 1917 in Karangasem, Bali. She was initially drawn to medicine by her father, who was a doctor.
She proceeded to graduate with a physician certification from Geneeskundige Hoge School in 1942 and proceeded with her schooling in Europe and the US, where she procured a few postgraduate educations in general wellbeing.
Additionally, Prof. Dr. Saroso was awarded a scholarship from the World Health Organization (WHO) to investigate European healthcare systems for mothers and children. She contributed to bringing birth control and family planning education back to Indonesia when she returned in 1952.
Soon after her return, she joined the Service of Wellbeing to lead programs that further develop medical care access for ladies, kids, and residents.
Prof. Dr. Saroso started teaching at Airlangga University in 1969 after a long and successful career in public health. He helped train the next generation of doctors and healthcare workers.
She went on to become the second woman to be president of the World Health Assembly and served in a number of prestigious organizations, including the Indonesian Women’s National Commission, the UN Commission on Community Development in African Countries, and the World Health Organization’s Expert Committee on Maternal and Child Health.
Happy 106th birthday, Prof. Dr. Julie Sulianti Saroso! Your unflinching obligation to medical care value redirected medication in Indonesia. The Prof. Dr. Sulianti Saroso Irresistible Sickness Emergency clinic in Jakarta carries on your heritage.
