Dua Lipa drops much awaited new song “Houdini”

“Houdini,” Dua Lipa’s latest release from her ecstatic disco catalogue, is a new single. After releasing the club-ready album Future Nostalgia in 2020 and its deluxe edition, which featured a few additional tracks, in 2021, Lipa has returned to solo music with this single. The music superstar has performed at important cultural events, such as the Met Gala earlier this year, and has a hit song that is still unavoidable from the Barbie soundtrack. The British singer-songwriter is back with another thrilling, dazzling disco tune, following the success of Barbie.

“Houdini” features everything that makes a great Lipa song: a catchy beat perfect for a four-on-the-floor, a shimmering synth, and her captivating voice. “I come and I go, tell me all the ways you need me. I’m not here for long, Catch me or I go, Houdini,” she warns the man she’s singing to in her signature style, “You have me now so treat me right or I’ll be gone before you know it.”

The singer of “Dance The Night” shared some pictures from the song’s recording sessions on Tuesday. The psychedelic synths heard throughout the song are explained by the work of producer Danny L Harle, who has produced two of Caroline Polachek’s albums, and Caroline Ailin, who co-wrote Lipa’s hugely successful hits “New Rules” and “Don’t Start Now.” Additionally, Tame Impala’s Kevin Parker helped to the music.

Fans of Lipa are likewise anticipating her return to solo music. “Tame Impala and Danny L Harle, she hit the slay button,” someone wrote in a comment on her Instagram picture. “Oh she knew it was a hit and had to document the process for this day to come,” commented a second comment. Although she hasn’t revealed the title of her upcoming album, the release of the new track suggests that one is on the way.
