Dynamic Duo: Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill Achieve Historic PWI Tag Team 100 Milestone

The last Pro Wrestling Illustrated list for the year has come. The magazine’s most recent edition includes its 2024 tag team rankings, often known as the PWI 100. Actually, this one was known as the PWI 50 for the first three years of its existence, but it has been enlarged to 100 teams during the last two.

The top-ranked team does not appear on the cover of the issue, which could be interpreted as an indication of tag wrestling’s status in the current business. They are referenced in the paragraph for the entire list at the top, however. They also receive a mention in the tweet promoting it.

Inside, you learn that the fifth PWI Tag Team ranking is led by a combination that won the WWE Women’s Tag Team championship twice during the evaluation period. And the fact that they are in the women’s division makes their victory unprecedented, as no women’s team has ever finished first in the PWI 50 or 100.

The selection criteria used by PWI are largely kayfabe: in-ring achievement, effect on the sport/promotion, technical aptitude, competition quality, and activity. The rankings span the period from October 1 of the previous year to September 30 of the current year, during which time FTR held the AEW, Ring of Honor, AAA, and New Japan Tag titles. So the case for placing them first is rather straightforward.

Here are the top 10 teams, including AEW, WWE, New Japan/Stardom, All-Japan, and Impact. Last year’s champions, FTR, finished tenth:

1. Bianca Belair & Jade Cargill

2. Fraxiom (Nathan Frazer & Axiom)

3. Bishamon (Hirooki Goto & YOSHI-HASHI)

4. Young Bucks (Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson)

5. TMDK (Shane Haste & Mikey Nicholls)

6. ABC (Chris Bey & Ace Austin)

7. Saito Brothers (Jun Saito & Ren Saito)

8. Bloodline (Tonga Loa & Tama Tonga)

9. Crazy Star (Suzy Suzuki & Mei Seira)

10. FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler)

Belair & Cargill join Cody Rhodes and Toni Storm atop the magazine’s 2023 rankings.
