The Edmonton Oilers rallied a 4-2 hole to defeat the Seattle Kraken on Thursday night, extending their winning streak to a franchise-high 12 games. Leon Draisaitl scored a goal and provided three assists.
Edmonton also had a goal from Zach Hyman, while Stuart Skinner made 25 shots. The Oilers have improved to 25-15-1 after being 20-3-0 in their previous 23 games. They equaled the record held by the 1967–68 Montreal Canadiens for the longest winning run by a Canadian team.
“I am happy we got the win. This group just keeps battling back and we were super calm. Hopefully we can continue this,” Foegele said. “Stu played a huge game again and that is what you need from your goaltender.”
The 12-game streak has included eight comeback wins for the Oilers.
“It’s been a theme of this winning streak. We stay composed,” defenseman Mattias Ekholm said. “I feel like it hasn’t really mattered if it’s going into the third, going into the second, going to the last five minutes of the game. … We find a way right now to stay in it and end up on the right side of things.”
Seattle took a 2-0 lead with to goals from Eeli Tolvanen and Jared McCann. After a nine-game winning streak, the Kraken ended their six-game journey with their third consecutive loss.
Coach Dave Hakstol of the Krakens stated, “Our first 20 minutes was good and, obviously, the first 10 minutes of the second period was what cost us.” “We weren’t as sharp as we needed to be and obviously gave up too much in that time span. We did push back after that, but we weren’t able to capitalize on what was a good start.”
Midway through the first quarter, Oliver Bjorkstrand found Tolvanen with a long breakaway ball to give Seattle the lead. For his 12th goal of the year, the Finnish striker beat Stuart Skinner high to the glove side.
A few minutes later, following an Evander Kane mistake, McCann chose the top corner for his 18th goal, giving the Kraken a 2-0 lead.
In the second minute, Edmonton scored. Before goaltender Joey Daccord could cross, Foegele scored his seventh goal after a huge rebound from Draisaitl’s attempt.
With 4:38 remaining in the second period, Draisaitl scored his 22nd goal of the year off Daccord to tie the score for the Oilers. Over his last 13 games, Draisaitl has scored 10 goals.
A backhand pass from Draisaitl found Foegele all alone to score Edmonton’s third goal in as many minutes.
After Yanni Gourde got a five-minute major for charging, the Oilers ended the game with 2:38 left. Hyman’s 27th goal of the season came via an easy power play tap-in from Connor McDavid, who fired a wonderful backhand across the crease. McDavid’s 13-game point streak was continued with the assist.
With 10 straight games where it allowed two goals or fewer, Edmonton tied a team record.
