Eminem has announced that his next album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce), will be released on July 12th.
In a promotional video for the album that the rapper posted on social media, a woman gives birth to a baby, but it’s not exactly a warm welcome into the world. As the mother holds the child, the child opens its black eyes and smiles evilly while horns sprout from its head.
The release date news comes just before the release of the project’s second single, “Tobey,” featuring Big Sean and Babytron. The song, which drops tonight, is accompanied by a video directed by Cole Bennett and is likely named after Tobey Maguire, based on the lyrics of the song’s teaser.
Eminem has previously released the project’s first single, “Houdini,” which is a throwback to his 2002 single “Without Me,” and features references to Megan Thee Stallion and Steve Miller Band, and debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100. .
Eminem first announced “The Death of Slim Shady” during the NFL Draft in April, and teased his upcoming crime series, “Detroit Murder Files.” He then published an obituary in the Detroit Free Press, saying goodbye to his alter-ego, Slim Shady, who he played as a character in songs and videos throughout his career.
In addition to the two singles, “The Death of Slim Shady” will also likely be produced by Dr. Dre, who also participated after the legendary musician announced that he would contribute to the project. To announce “Houdini,” he called magician David Blaine to record a FaceTime video, which he posted to his social media accounts.
