Today’s Doodle celebrates Djibouti Independence Day. On this day in 1977, the Republic of Djibouti was established when independence was declared from France.
The Djibouti national flag waving in today’s artwork was officially adopted in 1977. The flag’s design represents Djibouti’s multiethnic culture—along with their national motto of unity, equality and peace.
A military parade is held in Djibouti City, the nation’s capital, to honour the occasion. New units and apparatus are displayed to the public by the national army, which is headed by a vibrant marching band. National leaders address the Djiboutian populace in front of the Presidential Palace after the parade.
Other events in Djibouti’s cities and villages include fireworks displays, fairs, and musical performances. A tasty, crunchy Sabaayad flatbread is served with traditional dishes like Skudahkhrais (Djiboutian lamb stew).
Djibouti, happy independence day!
