The Doodle for today honors Kuwait National Day! Kuwaitis celebrate their nation’s independence and progress annually on this day.
Did you know that in the past, Kuwaitis celebrated National Day on June 19, the day the country got its independence? However, Kuwait’s summer heat, which frequently exceeded 125 degrees Fahrenheit (52 degrees Celsius), made it difficult for residents to participate in festivities. Consequently, in 1963, the government changed National Day to February 25.
As the Kuwaiti flag, depicted in today’s artwork, proudly flies in the sky, popular sawt music featuring drums, violins, and lutes fills the air. Kuwaitis can enjoy parades and picnics with loved ones at Messilah Beach, the Al-Sha’ab Leisure Park, and other scenic locations comfortably in the cooler climate. Families gather to watch fireworks glisten across the night sky as the day comes to an end.
Kuwait, happy National Day!
