Today’s doodle celebrates Argentina’s Independence Day, also known as Día de la Independencia. On this day in 1816, delegates gathered in Tucumán to declare independence from Spain. The house where they met is now the Casa Histórica de la Independencia museum, where many come to learn more about Argentina’s history and the its journey to freedom.
On this festive occasion, families gather to watch concerts and military parades with high-flying aircraft. It is popular to participate in cultural events that celebrate the country’s customs and music, such as dancing the tango with friends.
If outdoor activities have left you feeling cold, nothing beats warming up with a piping hot locro (a stew of beans, corn, potatoes, pumpkin and meat), asado (Argentine barbecue), or toasted empanadas. For dessert, many people choose churros and hot chocolate to end the day on a delicious note.
Happy Argentine Independence Day!
