Google doodle celebrates the Brazilian rock composer and musician ‘Raul Seixas’

Paola Saliby, an illustrator from Portugal, created this Doodle to celebrate the 79th birthday of Brazilian rock musician and composer Raul Seixas, who is well-known for his enormous contributions to the genre. Throughout his lengthy career, he put out an incredible 21 albums and is frequently referred to as the “Father of Brazilian Rock” and “Maluco Beleza” (also known as “Groovy Nutcase”).

Seixas was born in Bahia, Brazil, on this day in 1945. Early exposure to rock music exposed Seixas to songs by Little Richard, Elvis Presley, and other performers. He started his first cover band, Raulzito e os Panteras (Little Raul and the Panthers), when he was just 12 years old, and he started getting small gigs on TV Salvador. As the band gained popularity across Brazil, they eventually relocated to Rio de Janeiro in 1967.

Following the group’s dissolution, Seixas worked for CBS before releasing the experimental album Sociedade da Grā-Ordem Kavernista Apresenta Sessão das Dez, which changed the trajectory of his career. His portrayal of Ouro de Tolo on the TV program Phono 73, which thrust him into the spotlight, was the next pivotal moment. In the following ten years, Seixas gained popularity in places like São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Many appreciated his deep poetry and his songwriting that remained loyal to his northeastern roots.

Seixas put out 21 albums in his 26-year career, each of which experimented with multiple topics and techniques. He had chart-topping hits on his first album, Krig-ha, Bandolo! (1973), but his later albums, such as Há 10 Mil Anos Atrás (1976), included more reflective tracks. He embraced the difficulty of deviating from the standard and forging his own musical route. He is now regarded as the Father of Brazilian Rock, a pioneering musician who devoted his life to the development of rock & roll in Brazil.
