This Doodle celebrates St. David’s Day, an iconic of Wales’ rich history, culture, and pride in nationalism, comes on this day. This yearly celebration honors to St. David, the patron saint of Wales, who was declared a saint on this day in 589.
Vibrant parades, musical performances, and cultural events are all part of the nationwide celebrations. Schoolchildren and marching bands in traditional Welsh attire are seen holding the Welsh dragon flag, a sign of strength and heritage, and the flag of St. David, a stunning black and yellow cross, during Cardiff’s National Parade.
Wales’s two iconic symbols, leeks and daffodils, are particularly important to the festivities. St. David’s simple diet is linked with leeks, while daffodils bloom as a bright symbol of national pride.
The festivities wouldn’t be complete without traditional Welsh cuisine, including Cawl, a hearty lamb and vegetable stew, and Welsh cakes, a beloved sweet treat.
Following St. David’s timeless words, “Gwnewch y pethau bychain”—“Do the little things”—let’s celebrate the spirit of Wales today.
