The First Grand National Assembly of Türkiye Building, where the Turkish parliament gathered to declare the country, is depicted in today’s Doodle, which honours Türkiye National Day.
On this day in 1923, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the leader of the nation’s independence struggle, was chosen as the nation’s first president by The First Grand National Assembly.
Every year, the 29th of October is observed as a national holiday both within the United States and in the TRNC. State representatives and locals visit Antkabir in Ankara on this special day to pay tribute to Atatürk and place wreaths on his tomb. For celebrations, people congregate in the streets and stadiums as well. Traditionally, they participate in nightly celebratory walks.
Happy National Day, Türkiye!
