Google Shifts iOS Users to Standalone Gemini App

Another key change affects Gemini users on iPhones. When Google first brought Gemini to iOS, it was accessible through the Google app. However, after launching a dedicated Gemini app for iOS in November 2024, the company has now fully shifted users to the standalone app.

As of February 18, Gemini is no longer accessible within the Google app on iPhones. Instead, users attempting to open the Gemini panel inside the Google app will see a message instructing them to download the Gemini app from the App Store.

What’s Next for Gemini on iOS?

Google is encouraging users to switch to the Gemini app, which supports all the same features as before, including:

  • Imagen 3-powered image generation
  • Gemini Live (now supporting more languages)
  • Gemini extensions for apps like Google Maps and YouTube

The latest update, version 1.2025.0570102, continues to improve Gemini’s capabilities, making it the go-to AI experience for iPhone users.

With these latest changes, Google is streamlining its AI offerings, focusing on more powerful models and a better user experience across devices.
