Dakota Mayi Johnson is an American actress and fashion model. She was born October 4, 1989 in Austin, Texas.
She made her movie debut at age 10 with a small role in Crazy in Alabama (1999), a dark comedy movie starring her mother, actresses Don Johnson and Melanie Griffith.
Johnson was discouraged from pursuing her acting career until she completed from high school, at which point she started going to Los Angeles casting calls. She first appeared in The Social Network (2010) in a small role before appearing in the comedy 21 Jump Street, Goats, and The Five-Year Engagement in supporting parts (all in 2012).
Johnson made her acting debut in 2015 as Anastasia Steele in the Fifty Shades of Grey movie series (2015–18).
She was nominated for a BAFTA Rising Star Award in 2016 for her role in the show. Following Fifty Shades of Grey, Johnson starred in the biographical crime movie Black Mass (2015) and the drama A Bigger Splash (2015) directed by Luca Guadagnino.
She worked with Guadagnino once more, playing the title role in the 2018 supernatural horror movie Suspiria, which is a remake of the Dario Argento classic from 1977.
She had an ensemble cast appearance in the thriller Bad Times at the El Royale (2018) that same year.
Johnson starred in the comedy-drama The Peanut Butter Falcon and the psychological horror movie Wounds in 2019.
