Michael Kirk Douglas is an American actor and producer who was born on September 25, 1944.

For his role in the ABC police procedural television series The Streets of San Francisco, for which he got three consecutive Emmy Award nominations, Douglas first rose to fame.
Douglas published One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest in 1975 after buying the book’s rights from his father.
The movie was well-received by critics and audiences, and it won the Academy Award for Best Picture, giving Douglas his first Oscar for producing the movie.
Following his departure from The Streets of San Francisco in 1976, Douglas went on to direct films including The China Syndrome and Romancing the Stone.
He returned to viewers as an effective leading man when he won the Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy for Romancing the Stone, in which he also acted. Douglas received praise for his portrayal of Gordon Gekko in Oliver Stone’s Wall Street (1987), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor. He had previously reprised his Jack Colton role from Romancing the Stone in the 1985 follow-up The Jewel of the Nile, which he also produced, along with appearing in the musical A Chorus Line (1985) and the suspenseful psychological thriller Fatal Attraction.
In the 2010 sequel Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps, he played the same part once more.

He received the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie in 2013 for his portrayal of Liberace in the HBO film Behind the Candelabra.
