Argentina will face Chile on Tuesday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, looking to make it two wins from two in their defence of their Copa America title.
The reigning South American and world champions beat Canada 2-0 on Saturday in the opening game of the 2024 tournament, despite Lionel Messi not getting on the scoresheet. But Messi assisted Lautaro Martinez’s goal in the 88th minute for Argentina’s second.
After ending an 18-year title-less drought in 2021, Argentina is now looking to win its third title in four summers. The Albiceleste has repeated the South American title five times in its history, but has never won the World Cup and the Copa America in the same year.

Martinez and Julian Alvarez scored goals against Canada, lifting some of the burden of scoring off Messi’s shoulders and allowing the 37-year-old (whose birthday is on Monday) to move around in midfield and and pull the strings more. Of course, when it comes to backing down later in the tournament, Messi has shown he can take control and decide games himself, both at Inter Miami and as a frequent Argentina player since moving to MLS.

La Roja played Peru at the weekend to a hard-fought goalless draw. Winger Diego Valdes injured his foot in the first half of the opening game and is expected to miss the rest of the match. Sheffield United’s Ben Brereton Diaz could start in Valdes’ place.
Argentina vs Chile Prediction
Even with how intense they appeared in the first game, Argentina still had a lot more to offer. For the rest of the field, that is very terrifying. Argentina defeats Chile 2-0.
