Awards season continues this weekend with the People’s Choice Awards being held at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica on Sunday, February 18th.
This year’s two-hour show begins at 8 p.m. ET and will be broadcast live on NBC and E!. broadcast. However, cable cutters can live stream the entire awards show online via Peacock, in addition to various live TV streamers such as Sling TV and DirecTV Stream, which are currently offering free trials.
Simu Liu, who previously won the People’s Choice Award for Best Action Movie Star for her role in Shang-Chi, will host this year’s ceremony. The actor was also nominated for this year’s People’s Choice Award for his performance as Ken in Barbie. Greta Gerwig’s summer blockbuster also won Film of the Year and Comedy Film of the Year.
“PCA is unique,” Liu told Variety about his own hosting gig, noting that fans vote for his PCA online or on their mobile phones. “It’s not an awards show about an academy that votes behind closed doors. I think it’s important that we have that, but that’s not us. That’s not the PCAs — it’s inclusive by nature.”
Movies also nominated for Best Film of the Year include Fast X,” “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3,”
“Oppenheimer,” “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse,” “Taylor Swift: The Eras Tour Film,”
“The Little Mermaid” and “The Super Mario Bros. Movie.”
In addition, Adam Sandler will receive the People’s Icon Award this year, which honors his hilarious career and includes shows in iconic movies including “Grown Ups,” “Happy Gilmore,” and “The Wedding Singer.”
