What to Know
Since November 2015, UTSA has defeated Rice 7-0. On Saturday, they will have the opportunity to continue this winning streak. At 7:30 p.m. ET at Alamodome, both teams will compete in an American Athletic League game. UTSA hopes to continue their current winning run of five games.
UTSA defeated North Texas last Saturday with a strong victory, winning 37–29.
The offensive player of the game was Kevorian Barnes, who gained 8.1 yards per carry while running for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Putting the “special” in special teams by kicking three field goals and four extra points, Chase Allen did his share.
On Saturday, SMU emerged victorious, despite Rice perhaps having scored the opening basket. Against SMU, Rice’s record was negatively impacted 36–31. It is the second straight game that Rice has dropped.
Even with the loss, Dean Connors gave Rice a strong showing; on just seven touches, he gained 33 receiving yards in addition to 77 yards of rushes and one touchdown. With a 57-yard score run, Connors demonstrated his familiarity with huge plays by activating the jets.
The victory improved UTSA’s record to 6-3 and marked their third straight victory away from home. They averaged 40.7 points per game during that time, which was largely responsible for their offensive supremacy and those victories. Now with a 4-5 record, Rice is in the losing camp.
Because the experts predict UTSA to win by 13 points, they are the clear favourite going ahead. They’ll be the favourites for the sixth straight game (they’ve gone 3-1-1 against the spread during this run).
In advance of the game on Saturday, take note of the following offensive data: With an average of 166.4 running yards per game this season, the Roadrunners have been very effective on the ground. For the Owls, however, things are different because they have been averaging just 94.8 points each game. In the face of such a strong running game, how will Rice fare?
