IFFA 2025: Multivac Offers Advanced Solutions for Sliced Foods

The Multivac Group will demonstrate how to process sliced products both efficiently and cost-effectively with various line solutions at this year’s IFFA 2025 in Frankfurt.

Featured among the exhibits will be a high-capacity slicing line specifically designed for raw ham products, alongside a highly adaptable slicing line tailored for standard diameter items.

A standout attraction at the exhibition will be the high-capacity slicing line for raw ham, engineered for exceptional efficiency. A new feature of the Multivac Line Control (MLC), known as “Uninterrupted product change,” allows operators to switch between different products seamlessly during operation—eliminating the need to halt production or run the line empty. This innovation can reduce downtime by as much as 95 percent. Additionally, it enhances resource efficiency by minimizing product waste, as well as the use of film, labels, and energy.

All modules in the system are automatically calibrated to accommodate the new product, covering everything from slicing to feeding, packaging, labeling, and quality inspection. This automation significantly reduces the need for manual input and lowers the chances of mistakes. The entire line can be easily operated through the central Multivac Line Control, making the transition process clear and user-friendly, even for those without specialized training. This solution guarantees high process reliability and consistently excellent packaging quality. Production orders can be sent directly to the line, further minimizing the likelihood of operational errors.

The line is designed with sustainability in mind, particularly in terms of the packaging materials utilized, such as recyclable mono films. The “Consumption monitoring” feature tracks the use of compressed air, coolant, energy, and packaging materials across the entire line, allowing for real-time evaluation. This capability helps identify any gradual overuse of resources early on.

Traditionally, slicing products involves a freezing process that consumes a significant amount of energy. However, Multivac’s slicer technology demonstrates its advantages by enabling precise slicing at higher product temperatures through an optimized slicing unit. By utilizing the Multivac Sustainable Liquid Interleaver, which sprays minimal amounts of vegetable oil as a food release agent between slices, the need for conventional interleaving films is eliminated.

For slicing standard diameter products and packaging them in thermoformed packs, Multivac will showcase a highly flexible and efficient line designed to meet stringent quality standards. This slicer provides exceptional slicing quality without the need for blast freezing the crust, resulting in considerable energy savings. A standout feature of this line is its user-friendly design, which simplifies operation, cleaning, and maintenance. Specifically engineered for its primary functions, this compact solution for standard diameter products like salami or cooked sausage achieves high output while occupying a small footprint.
