The grand Apollo 11 mission occurred eight years after the national goal declaration by President John F. Kennedy to send a man to the moon toward the finish of the 1960s.
The thought for the mission to send astronauts to the moon began when President Kennedy spoke to an extraordinary joint meeting of Congress in 1961, expressing “I believe this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to Earth.”
At the time of Kennedy’s proposal, the United States was still head-to-head with the Soviet Union in advancements in space exploration and, since it was during the time of the Cold War, the proposal was welcomed. After five years of effort and hard work by their international team of engineers and scientists, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, or NASA, launched the first unmanned Apollo mission. The launch spacecraft vehicle’s structural resilience was tested during the first mission.
On July 16, 1969, at 9:32 a.m., Apollo 11 with three astronauts on board took off from Kennedy Space Center. Neil Armstrong was the leader of the mission. On July 19, after three days, the spacecraft entered the lunar orbit. The lunar module, Bird, withdrew from the main command module the next day, monitored by Armstrong and Aldrin. At the point when Bird contacted the lunar surface, Armstrong radioed his authentic message to Mission Control in Houston, Texas: “The Eagle has landed.”
Armstrong descended the ladder from the lunar module at 10:39 p.m. His advancement was being recorded by a TV camera joined to the module, transmitting signals back to Earth, where the world was watching eagerly.
