In Italy, the ChatGPT chatbot is now available again.
Concerns about privacy led the Italian data protection authority to prohibit it at the beginning of April.
OpenAI, the company that made it and has Microsoft’s backing, said it had successfully “addressed or clarified” the issues that were brought up.
It said its protection strategy was presently open to individuals before they enlisted for ChatGPT and there was another apparatus to confirm the period of clients.
The chatbot had been temporarily restricted and an investigation into the artificial intelligence application’s suspected breach had been launched by the Italian data protection authority known as Garante.
OpenAI stated that it would provide a tool to verify users’ ages in Italy upon sign-up. Garante had alleged that OpenAI had failed to verify the age of ChatGPT’s users, who are supposed to be 13 or older.
OpenAI said that it would also give European Union users a new way to exercise their right to object to the use of personal data to train its models.
The BBC was informed by the Italian regulator that while it urged even more compliance, it “welcomed the measures OpenAI implemented.”
In particular, the spokesperson said, around “implementing an age verification system and planning and conducting an information campaign to inform Italians of what happened as well as of their right to opt-out from the processing of their personal data for training algorithms.”
Garante said it would carry on its “fact-finding activities regarding OpenAI also under the umbrella of the ad-hoc task force that was set up by the European Data Protection Board.”
An OpenAI representative said it valued the Garante for being cooperative, and that it would keep continuous productive conversations.
A large number of individuals have utilized ChatGPT since it sent off in November 2022.
It is able to respond to questions using language that is human-like and natural, and it can also imitate other writing styles.
It was integrated into Bing last month, and Microsoft has invested billions of dollars in it.
Additionally, it has stated that it will incorporate a version of the technology into its Word, Excel, Powerpoint, and Outlook applications.
