Jimmy Kimmel, the winner of an Emmy Award, will be hosting the 2024 Oscars for the fourth time. Kimmel is well-known for his work as a late-night host. For the second year in a row, Molly McNearney, an Emmy contender, will also be back in the role of executive producer.
The host of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” previously hosted the telecasts in 2017, 2018, and 2023. The now-famous “La La Land” and “Moonlight” best picture mishap occurred at the 2017 ceremony. Kimmel will now be seated next to Whoopi Goldberg and Jack Lemmon, among other foursome members. The only individuals with more hosting appearances are Bob Hope (11), Billy Crystal (9) and Johnny Carson (5).
In a statement, Kimmel stated, “I always dreamed of hosting the Oscars exactly four times.” “especially honored to be part of the Oscars team this year,” McNearney continued.
Viewership increased for the 2023 Oscars, attracting an average of 18.8 million people overall—a 13% increase over the previous year’s numbers. It performed more than twice as well as the 2023 Grammys and Emmys. The ceremony reached three-year highs in both total viewers and demo, up 5% from 2020, with a 4.0 rating in the adults 18-49 key demo.
The films vying for prizes this year include a wealth of popular decisions, like Warner Bros.’ “Barbie” and Universal Pictures’ “Oppenheimer.” The two films were the highlights of the summertime “Barbenheimer” frenzy that swept over cinema theatres and popular culture. In the battle for best picture, both are predicted to finish strongly behind highly regarded films including “American Fiction,” “Killers of the Flower Moon,” “Maestro,” and “Poor Things.”
Raj Kapoor, Katy Mullan, and Hamish Hamilton will serve as executive producers for this year’s celebration of achievements in film. In addition, Kapoor will be the showrunner. Kenny Gravillis, creative director; Misty Buckley and Alana Billingsley, production designers; David Chamberlin, executive producer of the red carpet presentation; and Lisa Love and Raúl Àvila, red carpet creative consultants, round out the crew.
The 95th event from the previous year was nominated for an Outstanding Variety Special (Live) Primetime Emmy. For his late-night show, Kimmel received a second nomination in the discussion series category, increasing his total number of nominations for his career to 20. January is when the findings will be made public.
On Sunday, March 10, 2024, the Dolby Theatre will host the 96th Academy Awards.
