Lady Gaga Announces New Single ‘Disease’ Releasing This Week

Lady Gaga is returning to her usual persona with the release of her first song off her upcoming seventh album, “Disease,” which drops on October 25. This comes just after her most recent album, “Harlequin,” was released without warning.

The pop sensation has not yet released an official statement, but pre-saves for the song “Disease” were released by her parent label Universal Music on a pop-up website that linked to Apple Music and Spotify. Earlier this week, fans speculated that the song might actually be called “Disease” after observing that several of her tracks’ capitalization on streaming services had switched from upper to lowercase and vice versa, and that when the letters were rearranged, the first letters of seven songs spelled the word.

Gaga put the songs above in a playlist on her Spotify account that spelled out “Gaga Disease,” only hours before Universal’s pop-up website became popular.

The first single from Gaga’s seventh album was earlier tipped for release in October, according to the singer herself. She shared a schedule in September that included important dates for her “Joker: Folie à Deux” press run, along with the notation, “XX October: LG7 first single.”

The singer recently starred in “Joker: Folie à Deux,” a film that received negative reviews from critics and did poorly at the box office. Despite the fact that studio sources predicted the movie would break even, it might end up losing $150–200 million after failing miserably at the box office.

Inspired by her character in the movie, Gaga unexpectedly released her new album “Harlequin” just before it was released. Except for two original songs, the project featured almost all of the beloved American songbook classics, including “Get Happy,” “That’s Life,” and “That’s Entertainment.” It was a reference to the two albums she recorded—”Love for Sale” and “Cheek to Cheek,” which were nominated for Grammy Awards—with the late Tony Bennett. With a full-length album debut at No. 20 on the Billboard 200, the album became her lowest debut to date.

Despite the album’s lackluster reception, Gaga is enjoying her triumph following the release of her August duet with Bruno Mars, “Die With a Smile.” With hundreds of millions of plays and a No. 3 debut on the Hot 100, that song has been a commercial high point for Gaga.

The final true-to-form studio album from Gaga was “Chromatica,” which was released in 2020 right before the epidemic began. The singer’s attempt was an overwhelming success, as it debuted at the top of the charts and gave rise to the Hot 100 hit song “Rain on Me,” which featured Ariana Grande.
