The Restoration of the State Day in Lithuania is the subject of today’s Doodle. The Council of Lithuania decided not to join Germany or Russia on this day in 1918. Instead, the Lithuanian people ratified the Act of Independence, which established Vilnius as the capital of a sovereign state.
The country has two independence days, the second of which is Restoration of Independence Day, which is celebrated on March 11 to commemorate the end of Soviet rule in 1990.

Beetroot soup, akotis, and the national dish, cepelinai, are among the Lithuanian delicacies that are frequently enjoyed by those attending the celebrations.
