Duke vs. Arizona: A rematch between Cooper Flagg and Caleb Love takes center stage in Thursday’s Sweet 16 lineup of the NCAA Tournament, featuring a showdown between Duke and Arizona.
This time, however, the stakes are even higher, as a coveted spot in the Elite Eight awaits the victor.
The top-seeded Duke Blue Devils will clash with the fourth-seeded Arizona Wildcats on Thursday, March 27, at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, with the game scheduled to tip off at 9:39 p.m. ET.
In their previous encounter back in November at the McKale Center in Tucson, Arizona, Flagg propelled the then-No. 12 Blue Devils to a decisive 69-55 victory, scoring 24 points on 10-of-22 shooting, along with seven rebounds, three blocks, three assists, and a steal.
In Duke’s wins over No. 9 seed Baylor and No. 16 seed Mount St. Mary’s in the first and second rounds, Flagg averaged 16.0 points. Duke’s depth and strong offense and defense have made them seem like the team to defeat in the NCAA Tournament. On KenPom, the Blue Devils are ranked first on offensive and third on defense.
With 29 points, including several key 3-pointers in the second half, against No. 5 seed Oregon, the Wildcats’ old Pac-12 rival, Love helped Arizona go beyond the second round and into the Sweet 16. Arizona’s defense is ranked No. 13 on KenPom going into Thursday’s matchup.
In Saturday’s NCAA Tournament Elite Eight, the winner of Duke-Arizona will face the winner of Alabama-BYU, which comes before the Blue Devils and Wildcats at the Prudential Center on Thursday.
