As drivers get ready to compete in the Food City 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sunday, the NASCAR Cup Series moves to another iconic track after competing at one of the sport’s most illustrious locations.
The NCS attended the historic Darlington Raceway last week, where William Byron, the winner of the Daytona 500, dominated another 400-mile race. He was unable to hold off Denny Hamlin, though, who won the last stage with a pass to secure his second straight victory, even though he had won the first two stages.
Hamlin broke up the all-Hendrick Motorsports top three with the victory and a few poor runs from other drivers, moving him up to second in the series standings. Christopher Bell, who placed third last Sunday behind Hamlin and Byron, is currently third in points, while Bryon remains at the top of the pack.
After an exciting start to the season, many are looking forward to NASCAR’s return to Bristol. Kyle Busch leads all active drivers at The Last Great Coliseum with eight checkered flags, while Hamlin has won four times at the track.
