Normani Releases “Dopamine,” Her Long-Awaited Solo Debut Album

Normani has revealed her upcoming debut album, titled “Dopamine,” and provided an exclusive preview of a new song after years of releasing teases for the band Fifth Harmony’s split.

Her fans took notice yesterday that the singer wiped her social media. This is a tactic often used by artists ushering in a new era. Today, she posted the cover for “Dopamine” on Instagram, which shows her riding a black rocket against a white background. “Cryingg typing this rn. DOPAMINE THE ALBUM,” she wrote in the caption. The release date was not disclosed.

Following the “Dopamine” news, Normani posted a snippet of a new song on her TikTok account that could potentially appear on her new album.

It’s been a long time coming for Normani, who first became known as a founding member of Fifth Harmony. Formed in 2012, the quintet released two albums before 5H member Camila Cabello left in December 2016. Normani remained and contributed to the newly formed quartet’s third and final album of the same name, released in 2017. The following year, Fifth Harmony decided to take a hiatus and instead focus on their solo career, and disbanded.

As a solo artist, Normani experienced a number of hiatuses over the next few years. She was the first artist signed to Keep Cool/RCA Records, and a solo album would be released shortly thereafter. Instead, Normani released singles here and there, including “Dancing with a Stranger” with Sam Smith and “Love Lies” with Khalid. She has had moderate chart success. Her duet with Cardi B, “Wild Side,” peaked at number 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, and her solo song, “Motivation,” entered the top 40.

When Normani announced in 2022 that she had inked a global publishing deal with Hipgnosis Songs Group and that new music was in the works, she gave hints that her debut album would be out soon. She parted ways with S10 Entertainment manager Brandon Silverstein in May 2023, and a few months later, she signed a new management contract with Brandon Creed and Lydia Asrat, who together are in charge of Charli XCX, Troye Sivan, and Coco Jones’ careers.
