Nvidia RTX 5090 graphics cards are still being sold at exorbitant prices. A seller in Germany is offering a Zotac RTX 5090 Solid OC, which has missing ROPs, at the full retail price. Although Nvidia asserts that it has addressed production issues, some defective GPUs are still available in the market.
While supply is beginning to catch up with demand, many Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPUs remain difficult to find. With certain manufacturers increasing their prices, even acquiring these cards at the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) appears less attractive. One way to potentially save money is to opt for a B-stock unit; however, a German retailer is selling an RTX 5090 with missing ROPs without any price reduction.
VideoCardz has identified a damaged Zotac RTX 5090 Solid OC listed at Alternate for €2899. The retailer indicates that the GPU has been used but is fully operational. Nevertheless, it is disclosed that the Blackwell card has only 168 out of 176 ROPs functioning. ROPs are critical components that influence a graphics card’s processing capabilities, making it questionable to claim that this RTX 5090 is in complete working condition.
Certain RTX 50 series graphics cards were shipped with missing ROPs, a situation that Nvidia has acknowledged, attributing it to early production errors. Although reports of defective units have decreased, some GPUs with partial functionality are still present in laptops and at retail locations. Nvidia has recommended that customers return their purchases to the vendors or file a Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) with the manufacturers. It seems that Alternate prefers to attempt to profit from the RTX 5090 Solid OC rather than return it to Zotac.
Adding to the frustration, a German retailer is offering the Zotac RTX 5090 in pristine condition for the same price of €2899. Furthermore, the cost of an intact white version is slightly lower at €2859. While neither model is currently available, customers who purchased a B-stock product are not receiving any compensation.
The absence of ROPs is not the only challenge the RTX 50 series has encountered. Driver-related issues have resulted in black screens and, in some instances, completely non-functional GPUs.
