Olivia Rodrigo’s ‘Guts’ becomes the artist’s second No. 1 album

Olivia Rodrigo’s sophomore album “Guts” earns the 20-year-old’s second No. 1 album with the equivalent of 302,000 records sold in the US and nearly 100 million streams in its first week. This marks the fourth largest opening week for an album in 2023. It comes after “Utopia,” which Travis Scott released in July and had a huge opening week with, selling 496,000 sales.

With 295,000 units sold, Rodrigo’s debut album “Sour” debuted in 2021 and lasted a total of five weeks at number one, while her punk-inspired single “Good 4 U” also topped at number one on the Hot 100. With her latest release, she tops the charts for both songs and albums concurrently once more, and “Vampire,” the first single from “Guts” that she released back in June, has returned to the top of the singles list at No. 1 with 23 million streams, according to information provided by Luminate. The album’s 12 songs all charted in the top 40 of the Hot 100, with “Bad Idea Right?” coming in right after “Vampire” at position No. 7.

Rodrigo recently announced a 75-date world tour that will start in February 2024 and feature support from British dance-pop singer PinkPantheress, pop singer Chappell Roan from Los Angeles, California pop-rock singer Remi Wolf on all European dates, and seasoned alt-rock group the Breeders.

With his debut solo album “Layover” debuting with the equivalent of 100,000 sales and 13 million streaming, BTS member V earned a No. 2 entry on the albums list. After spending its first two weeks at No. 1, Zach Bryan’s self-titled album drops to No. 3 with 95,000 equivalent album sales.

Tyler Childs’ country folk album is the only other brand-new entry this week in the top 10 of the Billboard 200. With 38,000 equivalent album units sold, Childs’ sixth studio album, “Rustin’ in the Rain,” debuts at No. 10. It is his second top-10 charting album of his career after “Can I Take My Hounds to Heaven,” which opened at No. 8 in 2022.

With half a million units sold, Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time,” the second album of 2023 to have the highest opening week, is currently at No. 4, and Scott’s “Utopia” is at No. 5.

While Peso Pluma’s “Génesis” goes up to No. 7 from No. 6, SZA’s “SOS” remains at No. 6. The 2021 album “Dangerous: The Double Album” by Wallen is at No. 9, while Taylor Swift’s former No. 1 song “Midnights” is at No. 8.

The majority of the singles chart is unchanged, with Doja Cat’s “Paint The Town Red” falling to No. 2 and Zach Bryan and Kacey Musgraves’ first No. 1 single, “I Remember Everything,” moving up to No. 3. The chart’s top four songs are “Fast Car” by Luke Combs, “Cruel Summer” by Taylor Swift, “Last Night” by Wallen, and “Snooze” by SZA. Gunna’s “fukumean” comes in at No. 9 to complete out the top 10 singles, and Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” comes in at No. 10.

Other notable releases this week on the Hot 100 include “Bongos,” by Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, which debuted at No. 14 on the list, and “Bipolar,” by Peso Pluma, Jasiel Nunez, and Junior H, which debuted at No. 60. Rodrigo’s “Vampire” will have to compete with Drake and SZA’s brand-new single, “Slime You Out,” on the Hot 100 of the next week.
