The first new album from a well-known pop-punk band in 13 years is about to be released.
The fifth studio album by the All-American Rejects is scheduled for release in the near future. April 24 will see the release of the lead single, “Sandbox.”
Last week, AAR said on Instagram, “Thanks for waiting, you wanted a new record.”
The album will be the Tyson Ritter-led band’s first full-length album since 2012’s “Kids in the Street,” though the title and release date have not yet been revealed. Over the past ten years, they have released a number of singles, such as “Sweat” from 2017, “Send Her to Heaven” from 2019, and last year’s cover of Harvey Danger’s “Flagpole Sitta.”
The All-American Rejects made their comeback to touring in 2023 after a decade-long break. This band was a defining force in the alternative rock and pop-punk scene of the 2000s, known for chart-topping hits such as “Gives You Hell,” “Move Along,” “Dirty Little Secret,” “It Ends Tonight,” and “Swing, Swing.”
In an interview with Paper magazine, Ritter shared that the process of creating new material involved “a lot of fireside chats” and “a lot of mending fences.” He and guitarist Nick Wheeler initially believed that fans were not interested in new music, which led them to explore a different musical direction.
“People want to revisit their nostalgia and feel that rush of youth, like the scent of CK One brings back memories. But I challenge the idea: ‘What if we can express something relevant now? What if we can truly connect?’” said Ritter, the band’s lead vocalist and bassist, who also has roles in films and TV series such as “Preacher” and “Parenthood.”
“People say they want new music from certain bands, but they don’t necessarily want stuff that sounds exactly like the stuff we already gave them and nostalgic feels… they already have that,” Wheeler told Paper. “If we’re going to do something, we’re going to do something different that hopefully resonates with them, as well as a new audience.”
This year, the All-American Rejects will open for the Jonas Brothers at the KeyBank Center in Buffalo on November 9 and play on the Warped Tour. Vivid Seats, StubHub, and Ticketmaster all sell tickets.
