The handcrafted stained glass Doodle for today honours Scotland’s national holiday, St. Andrew’s Day. November 30 is a day on which people celebrate their Scottish ancestry every year. Thistle flowers, which stand for resilience, strength, and protection, are featured in the artwork.
Celebrations of St. Andrew’s Day differ throughout Scotland. Edinburgh, the country’s capital, is home to street markets that offer anything from locally produced sausages to scarves. It also organises storytelling and music events. During a week-long event, bagpipes and drums play above the breaking waves in the seaside town of St Andrews.
Ceilidhs are events that take place all throughout Scotland that attract hundreds of people wearing plaid kilts and last late into the night as they dance to both traditional and modern Scottish music. A party wouldn’t be complete without traditional Scottish fare like cullin skink, a thick soup consisting of smoked haddock, potatoes, and onions.
Happy St. Andrew’s Day, Scotland!
