Spotify is launching its AI feature known as “DJ” to premium customers in the United Kingdom and Ireland. The feature plays curated music with AI-powered English commentary and is aimed at music discovery. Using the AI DJ is similar to listening to a radio DJ in many ways.
This feature was first made available to premium subscribers in the United States and Canada in February. Since the feature is still in beta and is powered by OpenAI technology, there may be issues.
The company found that Gen Z and millennials, who made up 87% of DJ users, enjoyed the new DJ feature after it was released. In addition, the business discovered that users of the AI DJ spend 25% of their listening time on a particular day using the feature.
Spotify said the DJ’s voice is designed according to the organization’s head of social associations Xavier “X” Jernigan. It noted, for instance, that viewers of the feature will learn about Arlo Parks’ upcoming release of her most recent album, “My Soft Machine,” by the end of the month. Spotify may eventually turn this feature into a new revenue stream for the purpose of promoting new releases on the platform.
Spotify stated that the AI DJ is powered by OpenAI technology in addition to its Sonantic acquisition in 2022 during the feature’s launch at the Stream On event.
The DJ plays tracks naturally, however clients can tap on the artificial intelligence DJ button to switch temperaments or classes. The feature learns more about your choices as you listen, just like any AI-aided technology.
The AI DJ feature is available on both iOS and Android. Tap on the DJ card to access it through the Music Feed.
