‘Squid Game’ Season 2 Receives Golden Globe Nomination Weeks Before Premiere

The highly anticipated Squid Game Season 2 does not premiere for several weeks, but it is already generating awards talk.

The Korean mega hit, which remains Netflix’s most-watched show of all time, has been nominated in the Best Television Series – Drama category with Peacock-Sky’s The Day of the Jackal, Netflix’s The Diplomat, Prime Video’s Mr and Mrs. Smith, FX’s Shōgun, and Apple TV+’s Slow Horses.

Squid Game Season 2 does not premiere until Boxing Day (Season 3 will run in 2025), yet it is eligible for the Globes. TV shows hoping to be nominated this year must premiere by December 31, so Squid Game barely makes the cut. Shows were required to make their shows available in advance to all Golden Globe voters via the Golden Globes Screening Platform, either before they premiered, during the first broadcast, or by November 4th.

Jamie Foxx’s Netflix special What Had Happened Was is set to broadcast tomorrow.

Squid Game’s first season got three nominations, including a win for best supporting actor O Yeong-su, who became the first Korean-born actor to win the award.

The second season of Squid Game begins with Seong Gi-hun, also known as Player 456, portrayed by Lee, who is looking for the persons behind the game three years after winning it. He utilizes the ₩45.6 billion reward to fund this hunt, assisted by a big collection of ne’er-do-wells and underworld people, from the shelter of a derelict motel that he has turned into his headquarters fortress. Hwang Dong-Hyuk, the series’ creator, and Lee Jung-jae, its star, recently gave us an inside look.

Squid Game received only one nomination for best TV drama series, however Season 3 may be considered for the next round of Golden Globes.

The Golden Globe nominations were announced this morning in Los Angeles. Nikki Glaser hosts the ceremony on January 5.
