There’s a new way to spend $10 on a 12-ounce cup of coffee. Starbucks is now taking delivery orders directly through its app. DoorDash is in charge of delivery, which is now restricted to “participating stores” in the US and Canada. However, it has never been simpler to get your Starbucks order into your hands if you live in the delivery area and are prepared to pay a little amount in fees.
In the US, Starbucks has been using DoorDash for delivery since the beginning of the year, but exclusively through the DoorDash app. Prior to now, the Starbucks app only offered drive-through and in-store pickup for orders placed in advance. You can now switch between delivery and pickup. The interface that appears while placing a delivery order is the same as the one found on the DoorDash app.
You should also anticipate paying DoorDash’s service costs regardless of the app you choose. In addition to the $1.99 delivery price, there may be a $2.00 small order fee if the subtotal of your order is less than $10.
Additionally, DoorDash receives a 15 percent service charge, and in Seattle, where I live, there is an extra $4.99 fee since the firm chose to pass on the cost of providing drivers a decent wage to customers. My $6.55 12-ounce peppermint mocha now costs $19.23 after adding a $1 tip for the driver (and presumably nothing for the barista who made the drink). Naturally, convenience is not inexpensive.
The delivery option is certainly more realistic if you’re purchasing coffee for the entire office rather than just one person, and you probably won’t see such high prices depending on where you reside.
