Steve Kerr signs a record-breaking contract extension with the Warriors

Steve Kerr will only be staying in the Bay Area for a while longer.

The Golden State Warriors have reportedly agreed to a record-breaking two-year, $35 million contract extension with their head coach.

Kerr’s current contract expires at the end of this season, so his contract will take effect next season, ESPN reported.

His annual salary of $17.5 million is the highest ever paid by a coach.

Kerr, 58, recently won his 500th game and led Golden State to four championships with a star-studded lineup that included Stephen Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson.

However, things didn’t go as planned for the Warriors this season. During the struggle, Thompson was benched.

Due to his numerous hard fouls and disruptive behavior on the floor, Green was also given an indefinite suspension by the NBA. Prior to the start of the previous season, Green struck his teammate Jordan Poole during practice.

But this struggle clearly doesn’t outweigh the dynastic fortune the Warriors have had since his 2014-15 season, the first of his four titles since then.

The new contract is consistent with Curry’s contract, which also ends at the end of the 2025-26 season. Kerr’s winning percentage of .655 is fifth in NBA history.

Since Kerr has coached the Warriors, the Warriors have reached the Finals a total of six times, and after a season with a 73-9 record that led to the hiring of Kevin Durant, they lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers. They broke a 3-1 lead. They also lost to the Toronto Raptors in 2019.

Since joining the Warriors, he has a record of 501 wins and 264 losses.
