Taylor Swift drops her rerecorded album ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’

Officially, Taylor Swift is now in her 1989 (Taylor’s Version) era.

The 21-track rerecorded album, which includes five new tracks and the songs from the original deluxe version of the album, was released by the Grammy-winning artist on Thursday night.

Swift posted a series of pictures on Instagram to celebrate the album’s release, writing, “I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magic you would sprinkle on my life for so long.”

She continued, “This moment is a reflection of the woods we’ve wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in darkest dark. I present to you, with gratitude and wild wonder, my version of 1989. It’s been waiting for you.”

The 2014 album 1989 featured the hits “Shake It Off,” “Bad Blood,” “Wildest Dreams,” “Blank Space,” and “Style.”

To make the reveal of the new vault track names an interactive experience for her fans, Swift worked with Google last month. After searching for “Taylor Swift” on Google, Swifties were presented with a word puzzle. After all the problems were completed, Taylor’s 1989 vault tracks—which included “Is It Over Now?,” “Say Don’t Go,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” and “Suburban Legends”—were discovered. Along with an exclusive track for Target, the album will also include a fifth, as-yet-unnamed song.

The singer of “Cruel Summer” later posted the whole tracklist on social media with the caption, “It’s a new soundtrack Here are the back covers and vault track titles for 1989 (my version) I can’t wait for this one to be out, seriously. Thank you for playing along, sleuthing, puzzling and making these reveals so much chaotic fun (which is the best kind of fun, after all ).”

Swift first revealed during the sixth night of her Eras Tour dates at SoFi Stadium in August that her next rerecorded album would be 1989 (Taylor’s Version). The singer announced in 2019 that she would rerecord her songbook in order to possess her master recordings. Fearless (Taylor’s Version), Red (Taylor’s Version), and Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) were the first three songs released after her declaration.

The only two of Taylor Swift’s albums from her back catalogue that haven’t been remastered are (2006) and Reputation (2017).
